RV PARK REVIEW: Wilderness RV Park

As I have written in past posts, since we had already purchased our campground membership programs before going fulltime...we have decided to put them to work for us when it is possible.  So this review will give you the details on the Wilderness RV Park in Robertsdale, Alabama.  We checked in on Monday evening for a 2 night stay.

Wilderness RV Park  is approximately 30 miles east of Mobile.  It is at Exit 53 off of I-10.  It is close enough to the interstate to make it easy to find, yet far enough away so that you hear no road traffic of any kind.  As you enter the wooded drive the office/club house building is on the left.

A very nice gentleman greeted us and handled our check-in with our Coast to Coast membership.  We opted to pay the addition $2.20 per night for a 50 amp electric service.

As we followed the directions to site E-13 we drove along these narrow roads, but they are one way traffic only.  We easily found our site and got parked and leveled quickly.

Today after lunch, I walked around to inspect this RV park.  There are several RV's here right now but it has been very quiet.  The entire place is filled with nice trees but there is still plenty of space for children to play on the grassy areas and be out of the road.

There is a small lake for fishing.  No license is required and you can keep anything 12" or larger.  Try your luck with Catfish, Bass and Bream.

There is a pool here for cooling off during hot weather.  It is an older pool, but the water was clean and clear.  The pool building was less than attractive with a rusting roof, but the pool was still nice.

Next, I wandered over to the laundry and restroom building.  Again, a less than attractive place to look at.

To one side of the building is housed 2 washing machines and 2 dryers.  Less than appealing and I, personally, would only use them if I were desparate.  Likewise with the ladies restroom.  Usable...but I will elect NOT to.

They have organized activities at the clubhouse during holiday weekends and maybe during the summer months as well, but I don't know for sure about that.  There is also free WiFi service up at the clubhouse.  Our AT&T wireless works here, but it is slower than usual.  Pets are allowed on leash only.  We are getting great satellite reception here.

This is not what I would consider a fabulous, destination resort.  It does not bill itself as such, though.  I would classify this park as a family friendly place to play, but it is also quiet and lovely for us senior citizens, too. To me, it is a "campground" in every sense of the word.  The scenery is nice and the management is friendly and helpful.  With our criteria for "camping" it is highly suitable.  We like:  level campsites with full hook-ups, long enough spaces so our car isn't hanging out in the road, away from freeway noises, and good satellite and wireless reception.  We do not care about:  what the laundry is like, what the restrooms are like, if there are planned activities, or if the park has a pool or not.  We normally don't use or need any of those things.

There is a daily rate of $24.00 plus tax for public use.  The Coast to Coast rate we paid was $10.00, plus the $2.20 for 50 amp.  This is also a Passport America park and one affiliated with RPI membership plan.  It is a nice campground and we would choose to stay here again if ever in the area.

Until next time.....so long for now!

Thanks again for the great campground review. Your membership in CC sure does come in handy. We only opted to join Passport America at this time but it is tempting with such great rates.

Continue your journey safely.

With so many of us RVers, at least the full-time or nearly full-time, using memberships like you and we do, a park can't bring in enough mpney to have resort-type facilities. But that's just fine with us also. There are other folks who are willing to pay the big bucks the resorts charge, and you and we don't have to support those places. Yay for C to C, Passport, ROD, AOR, and especially Escapees!

Hi Margie!
You are in my favorite state, Alabama!
I checked the passport america rate and it's about $14-15 a night and valid for 1 week. It says there's a hot tub though, didn't see that on your pics.. maybe they took it down.
The pool does look nice (I like pools and water) but you are right, the laundry and bathroom facilities are needing some work. Oh well, that's what our "home on wheels" is for!
Have fun in Alabama and great campsite review!

Thanks for another great RV park review, Margie. The trees in that park sure look nice, even if the laundry room and showers leave a little bit to be desired. We'd definitely stay there for a few nights though after seeing your pics! I agree that a nice, level site with full-hookups is all that's really required for a short stay.

Nice review, Margie! It's more our kind of place, with the tall trees, green grass... we don't need big expanses of concrete and blacktop roads, nor packed in tight like sardines. I like the spaces and the meandering into the tree areas.

We don't even use pools or laundries either, and have our own washer/dryer in the rig. But I suppose if you wanted to catch up on bed linens or heavy towels, it might be serviceable.

Maybe they are planning a new coat of paint on the roofs soon. Heck, Steve and I would barter the painting job for some free camping! I love to paint!
