Woof Woof….Those Dog Days Have Arrived

I saw this morning that I have a new “Follower” to this blog.  I am always amazed at how many followers I have.  I don’t keep a goal in mind for a certain number of followers, although I appreciate each and every one of you!  So today I would like to welcome Anne and extend a great big THANK YOU for coming along for the ride.  We’ll be on the road again soon.

We are winding down our 2 months of babysitting.  We have either 10 or 15 days left, depending on when the girls go back to daycare.  This does not count the coming weekend when we are taking the “grands” camping.

The dog days have certainly set in, especially while we are house bound with Mackenzie’s cold/virus.  She has really been coughing, sneezing, and everything else that goes along with her spreading of germs.  How lucky we are to be breathing in all of that air inside the house.  It will be a miracle if we do not come down with this virus.  Part of the on-the-job hazards.  Hey…can we collect hazard pay?

I fixed Mackenzie a cheese omelet for breakfast and toast with grape jelly.  Zoey wanted the usual toaster waffles….fine by me.  I work around here like a short-order cook anyway.

We prefer coming to the kids house to babysit since the girls have all of their stuff here.  Annie makes herself at home, too.  Too, we can scoot out the door ASAP when Stephanie gets home from work and go back to our quiet sanctuary….plus air conditioning!

There are a couple of things (among others) that keep me wondering around here.  Every household runs on it’s own schedule and system (or lack of system) but I always wonder why nobody in this house, of 3 bathrooms, can possibly replace the toilet paper on the roll?  No matter which bathroom I go into, this is what I find………

Now, if you can take the roll out of the drawer or cupboard…..why on earth can you not put it on the roll?  Just wondering.

Turning off lights, ceiling fans and TV’s seem to be difficult here, too.  I will say they are all getting better at turning off the TV’s, but lights still seem to pose a problem.  I’m always reminding the girls to go back into their rooms or closets and turn off the lights.  Same thing with the light in the laundry room.  Is this so hard to remember?  Just wondering.

There is a new shoe rack installed in the laundry room and that is quite handy.  Still, some shoes don’t seem to make it onto the shelf.   Why not?  Can’t blame the girls….those are big people shoes.  Just wondering.

I am always seeing a few pairs of shoes down at the foot of the stairs.  OK, this one I sort of understand because they usually remove their shoes down on the wood floor before they go upstairs on the carpet.  However, when they come back down they usually put on other shoes and still leave the other ones in the way on the floor.  Does it really take that long to go and put them in the closet or on the shelf?  Just wondering.

See how these Dog Days of summer have me knit-picking on all of this stuff?  Why do I do that?  Boredom?  Lack of good blogging material?  Just wondering.

Until next time…..so long for now!

We feel your pain, we find the same when we go to our grands.

Where did we go wrong?

Have a good week...

Boredom and of course, time to move onward.

We are both knit-picking away at every little thing here at the ranch...so ready to move onward.

Soon, your life will be your own once again and it will cease...most likely anyway. That's our story and we are telling it that way!

I'm with you Margie, especially on the lights!! I can't tell you how many times and ways I've tried to get our kids to turn out lights - all to no avail.

I'll add one to your list of "just wondering". When someone takes a glass or bowl out of a cupboard, why is so difficult to close the cupboard door? That one really drove me nuts!

Oh well, I guess this is what they mean when they say "don't sweat the small stuff"!!

Life is just full of wonders, isn't it? You are right when you say that every household has it's systems, or lack there of. But then again, just be thankful that you have your own home to return to, where toilet paper is on the roll and shoes are put in their proper places! It sounds like your summer has been great with the grandkids. I've said it before but I think what you've done for both your kids and grandkids is something that will be cherised forever, by all of you. Kudos!!

I admit, I didn't replace the tp the right way in my old house. Now, there's no convenient spot to put it, so it has to be done right :)

Love the shoe rack. Sounds like Grandma has her hands full. Good luck with all the little germs flying around.

Ha, my house looks just like your daughter's. I scream for the girls to gather their shoes that crowd the front foyer and around the dining room table and my hubby's scream for the girls to "power down the nuclear reactor" (aka every light on in the house). Crazy thing is this stuff drives us nuts all seasons of the year. When you get a fool proof solution to all these issues let me know. Oh for the toilet paper, I solved that one, I just put it on myself. It wouldn't happen otherwise.

Margie, I think it's time for you to move on. :) Your post gave me chuckles! Isn't family wonderful?

By the way, I sent you the centering info days ago, but I guess it got lost in cyberspace. :(

So, here goes another try:
Choose your picture in Picasa3
Hit Export
then, Resize to 945 pixels
Hit OK

Then go to Blogger Dashboard and Edit the header. Remove your present photo, and choose to go to My Pictures for your new header photo. Open Picasa Exports and chose the picture you have prechosen. I have chosen to put it behind my title. Don't choose shrink to fit. I hope you can follow this explanation. Your blog title is not centered, so I don't know if that will make a difference. :)

Thanks Judy. Nope the first one never made it through. I'll give this a try one of these days when I have a spare moment!

Now go eat one of those delicious peaches you bought. :)

Your post today really made me smile. Isn't it the truth?

One advantage of putting the new roll of toilet paper on is that you can do it the "right" way! ;)

And I thought I must be the only person in the whole world who puts the toilet paper on the roll immediately (and dispose of the old empty roll). I think when I lived at home (my parents' house) I probably never bothered with it though, and I'm sure my mom had to do it.

Good post - I do alot of "just wondering" about things that we do in our own home and things my children & Grands do. Some days I just have to scratch my head and say Oh Well that just the way it is.

You have given your Grands an amazing summer that they will remember forever.

Okay - our rig is in the shop getting repairs, should be about two weeks. We could stay at my daughers and son-in-laws during this time. After all, we actually still own their home as they are buying it from us as soon as her condo sells.

Instead we are staying in a motel. Although the house is almost 3,000 sq feet with lots of room and it is only them who live there, it is NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR HER AND ME!

I love my daughter dearly. But we both know we can not live together more than a very short weekend. After a few days, someone would be digging a hole in the back yard for one of us.

So, Margie, I feel you pain.

I learned toilet paper 101 as a kid so I do real good now:))

Got the same problems at our placem I swear I must be the only one that knows how to press the spring on the roll and release the old roll and put a new one on it. Lights I gave up on after my second son of four was a boy, they all leave lights on, I can follow their path through the house by seeing what lights and cupboard doors are left on or open. My Grandson has inherited this gene also,Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

Margie, it's definitely time for you to hit the road again! Get away, be yourselves again for a few months. Hold your tongue before you leave (messy, I know) so you don't say something you'll never be able to pull back!

Hope Mackenzie feels better soon and that you and Bruce don't catch it!

The weekend camping trip should be lots of fun for all of you and may be just the cure to kick that cold! :) Looking forward to seeing pictures and hearing all about it!

I'm sure you two are having a blast with the grands but the countdown is on (10-15 more days to go!). :)

Nice catching up on your blog!

Talk to you again soon,

The Freely Living Life Family

...and this is why it isn't a good idea for our kids or grandkids to live with us....Den and I would then become full-timers..in our Hiker in the back yard!!!!

All I will say is you are not alone.
Think of the TP roll dilemma this way - at least there is no trouble with rolling over or under. It is always Your way.

Now, I can buy the big bonus size of a 24 roll pack, and Steveio can change on the average of 3 rolls during that time.

But to hear HIM talk, he swears he is *always* changing the roll.

Wonder when I get credit for the other 21 rolls? Seriously, one time I was saving the tubes of each roll I changed to prove my point, but when he saw 12-13 empty rolls sitting on the shelf, he threw them away! LOL

Do your kids read your blog?....just wondering!

We just left our kid's driveway after 16 days. Why doesn't someone feed the skinny cat? Just wondering. Why do you leave an 8 year old outside alone with a BB gun? Just wondering. Why do some of our other kids ask us to 'stop by' - doesn't the road run both ways? Just wondering.

Yep, it was time to move on down the road. I think it's your time too, ha ha.
