RV PARK REVIEW: Fort Gorge RV Park in Canon City, Colorado

When we looked in the Trailer Life Directory for a campground in the Canon City, Colorado area we had a few choices.  We selected the one that gave us the best daily rate.  Sometimes this can be risky but in this case it paid off nicely.  We made reservations for a 3-night stay at the Fort Gorge RV Park and Campground.   This park is right on Hwy. 50 west of the town of Canon City.

Here also we were met by a very friendly woman in the park office.  She had our reservations all organized and check-in went quickly.  She gave us detailed information on the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park plus coupons for discounts on admission.  Our daily rate at this park was $26.55 for full hook-ups and 50 amp service.  We were still able to get the "winter rate" and that was nice.  Their high rate, in-season, was $29.95.  Bruce had called the other two parks in the area and got quotes of $6.00 to $10.00 per night more.

This park has dirt roads, like so many, but they were in good condition.  The sites aren't fancy that's for sure, but they are good enough.  This is our site and there was plenty of room for our car to park off the road.  The park has 54 RV sites and 75 primitive tent sites.

On our walk this morning I took along my camera to get some photos.  The park is rustic by city standards, but is probably typical of parks outside big cities in western states.   This is the restroom and laundry building.  I took a photo of the ladies restroom and then another photo of the ladies shower room, which are separate.   The park laundry was well equipped, neat and clean.

In the tents sites you have an option of using the outdoor privies.  Thanks anyway.  This is a great little campground and we are happy with our choice of staying here.  We would definitely stay here again.  These rates are less than other parks and those didn't look any better than this Fort Gorge RV Park.  Why pay more if you don't get more?   Or why pay more if all you get is stuff you don't want or need anyway?  The park has no pool but it does have WiFi.  Our AT&T wireless works great here.  Plus, we have this fantastic view right out our dining room window.

I hope you will give this campground a try when you are in the Canon City, Colorado area.
I have a review of the KOA in La Junta, Colorado that follows this one.

Until next time.....so long for now!
