RV PARK REVEIW: Spring Lake RV Resort, Halstead, Kansas ~ and a question

Thursday morning we left Independence, MO in the rain.  It rained all the way into Kansas and beyond.  It finally stopped in the mid-afternoon, which made us happy.  We are at a nice campground along Highway 50, but before I get to the review I'd like to answer a question posted by Judy regarding state parks.  Judy asked if we ever stay at state parks when we travel.

We have not stayed at a state park in a long time.  On this current trip we did stay at a county park in Indiana for a few nights.  Back in the late 90's we had a smaller MH (30 foot Southwind Storm) which had no slide-outs.  We stayed at several state parks in Maine in 1997.  They had no hook-ups at that time.  In 1999 we also stayed for 5 weeks up on the Blue Ridge Parkway at National Parks, again with no hook-ups. This was fine.  Now, however, we have a 40-foot MH with 2 long slide-outs and a satellite dish we have become fond of.   Some of the state parks still offer no hook-ups, or limited hook-ups.  The price is anywhere from $15 to $20 in most places.  We can stay at membership parks (Coast to Coast, ROD) for free or $10.00 a night.  We can take a hot shower in our own MH every morning and enjoy having our slides extended and use the satellite freely.  I guess we have become used to our creature comforts and want them more often than not.  Not that we will never stay at a state or national park again, we just haven't in a while.  Hope that is a good enough answer for you.  Thanks for asking!

We are in Halstead, Kansas for a one-night stay.  Spring Lake RV Resort is a Coast to Coast park in our system and we paid $10.00 for a full hook-up site with 50 amp service.  The park is located just off of Hwy. 50, but far enough that you do not hear traffic noise.  (click photos for a larger view)

Edit:  I forgot to mention that this is also a public RV park and listed in Trailer Life Directory.
We had made a reservation about 60 days ago and everything was in order when we arrived.  The woman inside was friendly and got us checked in quickly.  She used the resort map to direct us to our site.   Since it had rained for several hours, the roads were muddy, but not lumpy or bumpy.  We had been assigned a pull-through site and that was great.

We got ourselves settled and hooked up and took Annie out for a long walk before it began raining again.  They have some nice ponds and small lakes here at the resort.  Catch and release fishing is permitted.  We checked out the main clubhouse and it was large.  They host social events and games here during the summer months when the vacation campers and members arrive to stay.  There was a TV room and smaller card room in the clubhouse.  Outside was a large swimming pool.

They also have a nice playground for children here, plus a family center for private parties.  I checked out the laundry and it was adequate.  The ladies restroom was also adequate and although it wasn't fancy, it was clean.   They also have a large storm shelter, which is always an important feature to locate when staying in this part of the country.

This resort appears to be a destination resort for folks wanting seasonal sites or someplace to escape to on summer weekends.  They have free WiFi, mini-golf, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoes, rental cabins and rental RV's.  It appears to be an older resort, but one the owners take pride in and manage to keep maintained well.  We would definitely stay here again.

I still have a couple of posts yet from our stay in Independence.  I'll get those on in a day or two.  Hope you have enjoyed our trip so far.

Until next time....so long for now!

Another great review, We are wondering those memberships, are they expensive ? WE were also wondering how long it takes to make them worth the costs. You guys seem to run into pretty reasonable rates so if not to much a personal question, it would help us decide,We did get a year of CampUSA at a good rate, but they seen to have a lot of restricted days ,most all exclude Fri,& weekends. Thanks for your help, Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

Thanks for answering my question about state parks. I appreciate the detail that you go into with your reviews. I've also become very fond of hookups. :)

Margie,
Spring Lake RV looks really nice and I love the ponds with the bridge that you can walk over. It offers alot of great conveniences and a good comfortable feel. State parks are nice and woodsy, but they are limited in size as well as saatellite tv capabalities. The state park fees have also gone up in cost. In Georgia, they take reservations but when you arrive there is no guarantee you will have a site your rig can pull into. We have seen tents and pop-ups in 50 amp pull thrus before.
Thanks for the pics and info about that park.

We stayed at Spring Lake our first year out, found it enjoyable. We also found a very nice Amish restaurant nearby, but please don't ask me to remember its name!

If you want to be able to hit the ball further and harder,
you should keep in mind to keep your grip on the bat loose, your swing should begin with your legs
and hips, and finally, you must always follow your bat through.

When it comes to fishing, some goes for fishing as an entertainment activity and many depends upon fishing for their livelihood.

Pay close attention to the mayflies, midges, and stoneflies in the area and try to match your flies to the size and type fish are biting
on. One can find another 2 options as to wholesale fishing rod, which might be hollow-tip rods and reels and spliced-tip rods.

Try simple games and check how your internet connection is and then move on
play more games. It combines RPG elements and strategy for a very interesting game where you
must stop the rows of pirates ship from making their way down the river.

And indeed Robert has made the paramount sterling effort, guided by his mentor,

Sea fishing can take place from a boat, from a pier or jetty or from the beach
or by an estuary. The less there is between you and the ocean, the more intimate an
experience you will have out at sea.
