Pismo Beach, Our Winter Place

We plan to return to our location here in Pismo Beach on January 2.  Most RVer’s go further South during winter months and that’s good, but this town works for us.   Even though we will not be leaving Pismo until November 1, we are already looking forward to returning for a couple of months.  We’ll be in Tumwater, Washington for the holidays, a stay of about 7 1/2 weeks.

For those that don’t know exactly where Pismo Beach, California is I’ll tell you that it is on the Central Coast 188 miles North of Los Angeles and 243 miles South of San Francisco.  The town’s population is about 9,000 and that gives it a small-town feeling we enjoy.

The beach area can be a bit crowded on weekends, but during the weekdays a lot of the visitor’s go home.  In the winter months, the visiting population is even less than now…..and we like that!

On a September weekday, the downtown streets have few people walking around.DSCF6746

Even though this is not prime Snow Bird country, the winter temperatures aren’t bad.  And they are sure a lot better than what we’d have up in Tumwater for January.  Last winter when we stayed here we had about a week of rain showers, but mostly the weather was cool but dry.

The average Low temperature for January is:  43F

The average High temperature for January is:  65F

You can see some birds here year round, although I don’t know many of the varieties or the names.  We did see some of these last night and I think they are Egrets.

No matter what time of year we come here to stay, we can always walk on the beach.  We just layer on more clothing in January.  Surfers are always out in the water, nothing will hold them back!

We’ve seen a cool weather trend move in the past couple of days, but it is supposed to warm up into the mid 70’s again next week.  The Clam Festival is gearing up for October 15 to 17 and the town will be bulging with temporary visitors again.  No worry, they’ll go home again after the festival.

Checking out the sunset in the evening is a favorite past time for a lot of us here at the RV park.  It’s not like Key West and the huge crowd that gathers for their sunset views, but we do have a fair number of folks that turn out daily to watch the sun dip below the horizon.

Yesterday I caught this view of the sun getting ready to slip below the cloud.DSCF6968

It’s always a good day for us in Pismo Beach.  I hope all of you enjoyed your own good day!

Until next time…..so long for now!

I enjoyed your review of Pismo Beach, you and Bruce seem very peaceful with where you are and what you are doing...that's great!
I like the pic of the sunset. It's not a matter of how many folks look at the sunset, but how many folks see the sunset.
Take care and enjoy.

Another vote for your beautiful photos! What kind of camera do you have? I know it's not the camera, but the photographer that takes the pics, but I'm just curious. I think I need to take a class. LOL.

Great pics. I too would love to be there. My son will be there this weekend, camping at the beach with a truck club. Unfortunately I won't be able to go with him. Sooo sad. I really need another road trip to get out of Sacramento.

I know this winter while we are sitting in our motor home and it's freezing outside I'll wish we were there! The pictures are wonderful!

Now what is that in the sand in the second to the last picture? The one above the sunset?

Great review we are hoping to spend a week there in April after we attend the Workhorse Rally in Bulleton.

Thanks for sharing!

Dennis and Donna: So far we haven't found any damage due to the salt air, even after 3 years of this RV coming here. We do have some discoloration on the "W" on the side of our rig, but we noticed that last summer up in Tumwater. It does look ugly, though. :(
