We've enjoyed resting up after our 2 months in Florida. We have 6 more nights here in Salem, Virginia before pulling out.
Last night we played 3 games of Canasta with Gail and Rick (cousin & hubby) and 2 of their neighbors. Bruce and I hadn't played Canasta for over 40 years and I was quite rusty. Got through it without too much trauma. It was fun and Gail provided a nice dessert of Strawberry Shortcake. Yummy!
This coming Sunday (July 19) we are going up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There is an access road right out of Roanoke. We plan to take our lawn chairs and a picnic lunch and drive a bit south on the parkway to Mabry Mill. On Sunday afternoons during the summer, visitors can enjoy concerts with traditional mountain music and watch people doing the flat-footin' folk dancing. We were at the Mabry Mill back in 1997 and 1999 and enjoyed this informal jam session so much we want to go again.
I plan to take my new camera and get some photos of the parkway and the mill. National Park Service says that the Mabry Mill is the most photographed area on the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. FYI -- it is totally FREE to go up to and drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful area.
Until next time.....so long for now!
