I have been remiss in not welcoming my newest “Follower” N and J to my RV blog. Please forgive the tardy welcome. I hope you folks enjoy the stories of our travel adventures and life with our family in Tumwater, Washington.
Due to the rain we had yesterday, we decided to reschedule today’s trip to the state park since the grounds would be muddy. So we made plans to go to IKEA and Camping World today. For Saturday morning we had planned to take the girls on a trip to the Olympia Farmer’s Market on the city bus. We could easily drive down there, but the bus would be a lot more fun and something different.
Then…..in the late afternoon on Thursday all of those plans changed….again. Our son, Dennis, called us to say he was at the hospital undergoing some tests for possible gallbladder problems. He would probably be needing surgery. We asked if we should drive over there to be with him and he said “no” he was fine and would call us back. About 6:30 last night he called to say he was being admitted and would have his surgery this morning.
So, we cancelled all plans of an outing to IKEA for today. After we got over to the “Grands” house at 7 am, we got them up, dressed and fed and piled them into the car for a trip to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. I had packed up some snacks, coloring books and games to keep us all occupied while we waited. A favorite game for the girls is Jackpot Yahtzee and that one is easy to transport.
We found a nice table by the window in the surgical waiting area and played a few rounds of this Yahtzee game. We soon went through all of the snacks I’d brought with us and a couple of cups of coffee. The Grands didn’t have coffee. :)
Dennis ended up having some very large gallstones and his gallbladder was removed. We waited and waited and waited. He still was not back in his room for us to pay him a visit. Finally, we left and took the girls to McDonald’s for a quick lunch. Stephanie was home by then so after lunch we took Zoey and Mackenzie back to their house with Mommy. Bruce and I drove back over to the hospital and were able to find Dennis settled in his room on the 7th floor. Feeling none too perky!
We left around 3:00 and drove his car back to his condo for him. Tomorrow morning he should be able to leave the hospital. We’ll go and get him and take him to his house or over to our motorhome, we haven’t decided yet. Wherever he feels he would like to be.
It was a busy day. Plus, a tiring one sitting around a waiting room for a few hours. I think we’ll reschedule that trip on the bus to the Farmer’s Market for next week! We have to be flexible at all times.
Until next time…..so long for now!
Our prayers are with you for a safe and fast recovery for Dennis, Boy if it isn't one thing it's another, Glad to see the girls were able to keep occupied and maybe kept you guys busy and not worrying as much. Wish Dennis well from us, Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds like a busy day. I hope Dennis will make a full recovery.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Dennis is recuping quite fast. Good for him. And how great that you were back in the area to be available to him.
ReplyDeleteTake care of all your family and enjoy each day no matter what pops up in front of our best laid plans.
Margie/Bruce,
ReplyDeleteSounds like a really busy day, and we are glad Dennis is fine and will be back up to par in a few days to a week. I think it's great that this lifestyle allows you to be where you need to be, when you need to be. This lifestyle is not always about traveling, but being free to do what is necessary and helpful.
As always take care and be safe.
Mike & Gerri
Hi Marie! We're keeping your son in our prayers. It's great you live close enough to grab the girls and drive over to be with him.
ReplyDeleteQuite a day - and a big change in plans indeed! Sure hope Dennis is feeling better tomorrow. It still amazes me how fast patients are released from hospital now after surgery.
ReplyDeleteWow I hope Dennis gets well soon! Those are really painful (had them too!).
ReplyDeleteHave fun this weekend, hope the weather co operates!
Cheers!
Oh! And thanks for the welcome on your blog :)

Yes, those hospital waiting rooms can be very tiring alright but fortunately you all had good results in the end.
ReplyDeleteYou were prepared, as always, with snacks and games for the girls. We wish Dennis a speedy recovery. I'm glad this didn't happen when you were on the road. Sometimes things work out just the way they should. Our prayers are with all of you, including Dennis!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a change in plans. I bet you're glad you were there to help out. Be sure to get enough rest yourselves. Being caretakers can run you down, and you don't need that. :)
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog thanks to Gerri & Mike (happytrials). Looking forward to following your travels even while stationary for the next few months. Every time I see someone in Washington it makes me want to go home (Spokane) and visit. Cheers! Merri
ReplyDeleteYou're good to have around! Always planning, always able to react well and appropriately. Good for you! And you are teaching the grands some very good lessons.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to be there for Dennis and yet still take care of the girls. Being flexible is the best plan...I have been telling myself that the last two days too.
ReplyDeleteHope Dennis is up and about soon.
