First Day On The Job

We woke up for our first day on the job and it was raining.  We had indoor activities planned for today, so our day proceeded as planned.  We got to the kid’s house before 7:00 am and Darin was soon out the door and on his way up the freeway.  The girls slept for another 30 minutes and I began unloading all of the stuff we had brought with us.  I lug over our breakfast and lunch if we plan to eat there at the house.   Our daughter keeps plenty of food at her house, and doesn’t care how much of it we eat, we just prefer our own food items.  (lower fat, lower calories)

I got Zoey and Mackenzie fixed up with cereal and banana this morning and they read the paper as I fixed breakfast for Bruce and me.

Stephanie bought the girls each a journal so they can write about their summer vacation with Grandma and Papa.  Mackenzie got to work on hers after breakfast.

We were sorely in need of some fruits and veggies for our house, so we drove over to West Olympia to the Top Food and Drug.  For a grocery store they have the best produce you can find anywhere.  Besides….our daughter, Stephanie, is the Variety Manager there!  I bought a few things to take back and fix dinner for the kids too.

The girls went upstairs to make a mess play when we got home.  I got busy fixing up some meatballs to put in the crockpot for their dinner.   Papa decided a little snooze would be a better idea for him.

After lunch we took Mackenzie and Zoey to our Tumwater library to check out some books for summer reading.  There was also a planned program for kids and we stayed for that, too.

I sat on the floor with the girls and we waited for the “Bubble Magic” program to begin.  The performer was a lady sort of dressed like a clown, and she had a cute program with a couple of puppets, some musical instruments, and some bubble tricks.  The girls enjoyed it.

There are a couple of other library programs in July that I have worked into our schedule.  We were going to drive down to Rainbow Falls State Park tomorrow, but more rain is predicted….so we’ll exchange that with a day next week when we were driving up to IKEA in Renton.  Tomorrow will now be the trip to IKEA and the Camping World in Tacoma.  We promised the girls breakfast out at McDonald’s and that is good rain or shine!

Until next time….so long for now!

  1. Looks like you're off to a great start with your summer "job". It was so great that you took the kids to the Library to take some books out for the summer! Sure wish more parents and grandparents did that instead of just relying on tv, computers and dumb electronic games. The kids sure benefit from it.

  2. Sounds like a successful first day on the job! What fun to spend so much quality time with your "grands." Being a retired elementary teacher I agree with Rick on the trip to the library. Good for you all. Looking forward to reading about your adventures with these special young ladies.

  3. I like the library summer reading programs for kids. Might as well take advantage of them. As Rick said, it sounds like you are off to a good start!

We had rain today, too. Ours started around noon. Where did that come from. Supposed to be in the nineties next week. We'll see!

  6. Keeping the girls' reading skills up during the summer can only help them out come this fall when it's time to go back to school. Good for you! :)

  7. Forgot to mention...how about throwing in a little math this summer? Or maybe some map reading skills as you make your trips?

  9. Sounds like your first day went well. Although you're doing a different kind of workamper position than most, it is still a lot of work with long hours. Of course it comes with a lot of added benefits too! I think it's great what you're doing, for both the girls and yourselves. I'm sure it will be a summer that you all cherish. Have fun!
