WooHoo….2 new “Followers” today. I appreciate that you give my Blog about RV living your time and attention. So a big THANK YOU today to:

It was cooler here today along the Central Coast of California. A little bit at least. We stay right at the beach here in Pismo Beach in a part of the town that is lower than other places in town. We have some hills to the East and North of us and, actually, some to the South of us too. It gets much hotter up there. By the same token, in January when we are here, it can be cold and foggy at the beach and when we drive a short distance up to the Walmart or to Albertson’s, it will be sunny and bright and about 10 degrees warmer. It goes both ways.
I was interested in a comment left by “Anonymous” who apparently lives nearby. They were commenting on my remarks from yesterday’s post about the intense heat in this area and also down in Los Angeles. They wrote: “Two miles away from you, it was 110, regardless of what the newspaper reported. IT was darned hot. Stay cool by the beach today. Go to Costco early ‘cuz it’s going to be hotter there than where you are.”
I figure this Anonymous probably lived up in one of the hilly areas around here in Pismo or Arroyo Grande, and it was really, really hot where they lived. They probably felt a change in the weather today, but it was still pretty warm up there today.
Could be that these homes felt the heat a whole LOT more than we did by the sea.
After breakfast at McDonald’s we did drive right up to the Costco in San Luis Obispo. We had our usual breakfast of English muffins and coffee. When we got here a couple of weeks ago, the manager here at McD’s remembered us from last winter and welcomed us back. How nice they are here!
This is our favorite booth at this McDonald’s in Pismo Beach. Lots of light to read the paper.
After we ate and read the paper, we were on our way to Costco. In comments left yesterday Rick and Wayne and Roberta wrote that we would not get out of Costco for under $100. Were they correct? We had several items on our list and found everything except Green Tea Bags.
Yep! Correct assumption as we spent $106.00 today.
We would have been under except I remembered while we were there that I needed a bottle of vanilla. That was priced at $6.79 so it put us over the $100 mark. I bought 6 lbs. of fresh salmon, which was the main thing I wanted to get on this trip. I can cut it into serving sized portions and freeze it. So, Rick along with Wayne and Roberta win the prize for guessing correctly. Oops! I don’t have a prize to give you except to say…thanks for reading my blog and leaving fun comments.
We took an early walk on the beach a couple of days ago and we saw a young woman who seemed to be practicing her surfing techniques. Maybe she is a newbie, I couldn’t say for certain. She kept going back out to catch another wave or two. She wasn’t quick to give up.
There goes the Little Surfer Girl.
It was a beautiful day here at the beach!
If you are reading this blog and you live in some of the super-hot weather areas, I truly hope the high temperatures will break for you soon. Until then, try to stay out of the direct sun and drink a lot of water!
Until next time…..so long for now!
yet another great ordinary day!!
ReplyDeleteIt was hot here in Idaho today, but I'm so relieved to have the overheating fixed that I hardly noticed it! :)
ReplyDeleteLittle surfer girl...the Beachboys?? :)
I'll be going to Costco soon enough myself. I usually make a couple of trips a month, and maybe it all adds up to $100+. I don't know what they carry in your area, but here they have the most wonderful fall-mild winter clothes. There is one particular brand of shirt that I'm now up to four of in different colors and designs.
ReplyDeleteI try to stay away from their frozen food items because it has so many additives, but once in a while you find something that is plain food without all the unpronounceable ingredients and 5 different ways of saying "corn syrup".
It sounds like you are beating the heat! Glad to hear that your trip to Costco was a success, except for the missing tea bags and the $100+ cost.
ReplyDeleteWe are finally get a break from the high humidity we've been having the last few days. It's been miserable!
We are trying to get the Pumpkin Patch set up but here in Saratoga, it got up to 96 today, after 98 yesterday. Drinking loads of water and trying to do things under the tent but so much needs to be done outside the tent and it is soooooooooooo hot!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness they are calling for only 83 tomorrow before heading down to the upper 70's after that...yeah!!!
Your pictures of the beach sure make it look inviting. Given all the customer's that go through Mickey D's in a year, it was pretty good of that Manager to remember you.
ReplyDeleteSo, $106 at Costco. That was pretty close, you did well there.
Enjoy the nice weather!
Sounds like a great day to be in the water.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful day at the beach! Wish we were there it was 104 here today, suppose to be cooler tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYou almost made it under the $100 but you weren't to far over. Enjoy the salmon.
Your heat wave was even in our newspaper today.
ReplyDeleteWe flew into LA 11 Feb 2006 and were astonished by the heat. Remember we'd left NZ at the warmest time yet this supposedly late winter day was much hotter. We stayed at Santa Monica to recover from our flight and the sand on the beach stretched away like a hot dessert ... not enticing, although a walk in the sea would have been nice. We went from LA to Redding CA and it was pretty warm there too but a week later there was snow and we had a very chilly wait at McCloud for the Mt Shasta dinner train. I love having my memories stirred up as I read your journal.
Closest I have ever get to surfing is splashing around in the tub with my rubber duck........
ReplyDeleteI really liked the photos of the houses on the hills. Amazing how they could be built. I guess there are roads up to the houses, but I couldn't see any in the first picture. We've been in Florida too long and just aren't used to those kind of hills :) Enjoy your time at the beach, it looks very nice.
ReplyDeleteYou make the routine days just look like fun,wow you are braver than me, being a regular at Macdonald s, I can only take it about once every week or two,Now if that was a Steak & Shake I might go twice in a week. Have fun and be safe out there, Sam & Donna.
ReplyDeleteEverything from your shopping trip looks good and healthy! Did you hide the big box of Twinkies behind the Fiber One? LOL

ReplyDeleteMargie,
ReplyDeleteYou are exactly right about the location of "Anonymous" (aka Emjay). I lurk and peek out long enough to make comments and then go back into hiding. The hills around where you are now are the dividing line between weather zones. Hot from the top and beyond and cooler toward the beach. AS for Costco, this particular one has the neatest brand of bread that cannot be found at other stores: Alpine Valley Organize Whole Wheat. Yum. Low points value for each slice, too.
Thanks for an enjoyable 'blog.
Emjay
Routine days can be interesting, and yours was good. Our "routine days" are new this week -- chopping and measuring foods for our new weight control program. It's a winner, and we are both doing very well on it, not feeling deprived (not TOO much, that is!). We've seen this plan work with friends, so we are heading into it full blast! But Costco sampling is definitely out!
ReplyDeleteWhat does it cost a year to belong to Costco? I have never been to one, but often shop at Sam's. Are they similar?
ReplyDeleteLoved the pictures of the girl trying to surf. Stay safe.
After 51 days of 90plus temps this summer,I am so ready for cooler temps. What do you want to bet I will be complaining if it gets TOO cold.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time at Pismo!
