We planned to take the girls for a return trip to Chuck E. Cheese today. Dennis, who is a manager there, told us they were expecting 140 kids from the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Olympia to be there……so we changed those plans and FAST. We changed the plan to take a picnic and go over to Tumwater Historic Park.
The morning showed us a high fog, which is typical for this area at times. During summer months, if you wait about an hour it will all fade away.
This was the view out the back door of the kid’s house.
After the fog burned off we drove over to the park. There is a trail you can take from the parking lot that goes under Interstate 5 and will eventually take you to downtown Olympia. We did not go that far. We all walked a couple of hundred yards on the path, took a few pics and went back to the park.
Reflections in the river under the freeway.
The upper end of Capitol Lake and an old fishing dock.
When we take the girls for an outing, I always snap a photo of them on that day. God forbid, they should go missing, I have a photo of exactly what they look like. I would imagine at a time like that your brain would cease to function normally and you could waste valuable time while you are trying to think of all the details on what they were wearing and so forth. This way you have a photo instantly available for the authorities and the search can begin fast.
The girls wanted to run races today. Well guess who won? It certainly wasn’t us old folks. There is a large grass lawn at this park for running or playing ball. After we all ran several races (I always came in like beetle-bomb) we quite because it was too hot.
We went to the playground so the girls could play on the equipment there. They had a lot of fun climbing on all the stuff and worked up an appetite for lunch. I walked around taking the photos while Bruce played along with the girls.
I took some funny shadow pictures while the girls finished their playtime. After that it was time for lunch.
Before heading back to the car, we took a quick walk over to the Deschutes River to take a photo and see the Canada geese on the bank. It was another good day.
Until next time….so long for now!
Sorry the lunch at Chuck E Cheese was cancelled but it looks like you found a great substitute! What a nice day you guys had at the park.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to take the girls pics whenever going on an outing. I would not have thought of that but it makes lots of sense. It's always better to be safe and then you have a terrific pic to remember the day. :-)

What a great idea about the photos of the kids! I don't believe it would cross my mind, although I sometimes make a mental note of what the kids are wearing. The pictures are perfect. Margie, you are an AMAZING lady!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea of taking their pictures. It would be so easy for everyone to do, even on a cell phone camera.
Good idea on the photos of the Grands! I don't know how you and Bruce do it. I'm exhausted just from looking at the pictures on your blog of all the activities. Racing? You've got to be kidding!! If there were an award for Grandparents of the Year, you'd definitely be high on the list of contenders!
ReplyDeleteYou guys had a full and fun day! Love the shape/shadow pictures! I hope tomorrow is grand!
ReplyDeleteIt's unanimous! You and Bruce are the "official" blogger Grandparents of the Year, well of the Summer anyway! Great idea about the photos taken just in case you need to identify what the girls were wearing. Plus it's nice to have a photo of every occasion. I really like your picture of the fog surrounding the houses.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Rick and Paulette...After reading your blog my feet hurt and my brain is mush..You are AWESOME grandparents (just a little tribute to our missing blogger)...Never thought of taking pics of the grands...and my son-in -law is a detective...good idea..
ReplyDeleteGreat idea about the kids' pictures. I'm going to do the same with my grand kids from now on.
ReplyDeleteI must agree with everyone else you are great Grandparents and have given the girls a wonderful summer. I love the picture idea. Being outside at the park was must better than Chuckie Cheese.
ReplyDelete140 kids at Chuckie Cheeses. I could not run fast enough headed the opposite direction!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great day with the kids. Glad the pictures will only be used for memories.
ReplyDeleteIf it came to choosing between Chuck E Cheese and a park... the park wins
ReplyDeletehands down!
