Thursday was one of those infrequent days in Tumwater where it was just too hot to do much of anything. The girls were still sleeping when we got over to their house this morning, so we were able to enjoy our coffee and the newspaper in peace and quiet. After we all had breakfast I got the girls ready for the day.
Since it was going to be so hot outdoors, we all went over to the motorhome because we have A/C. I pulled out all of the scrapbooking stuff and the girls got to work on a few more pages in their Vacation albums. Zoey prefers to use a lot of stickers. The more the merrier is her visual concept. Hey, she’s 5 years old and this is her album so I let her roll with her own ideas. Mackenzie gets a little more artistic and has a real color palette in mind for every page.
After lunch and a second viewing of the Wizard of Oz it was back to their house. They went out in the backyard to bounce around on the trampoline but soon gave that up since it was so hot.
There in the neighborhood where our family lives is a nice little park with a couple of tables and a playground. Zoey and Mackenzie wanted to ride their scooters over there. It was just around the corner and even though it was near 100 degrees, I said OK and went along. The girls played on the equipment for about 15 minutes and then had enough of that too. You can see behind the girls in the top photo how the homes now in our area are built “California style”. That means crammed close together to where you could almost shake hands with your neighbor through your windows. We’re used to it.
The girls rode their scooters back home and I was trailing along behind them with the ever present camera. By the time we got back, Stephanie was home from work. Our work day was over.
Friday isn’t supposed to be quite as hot as Thursday, but still above our normal for this time of year. It’s the same thing all over the country from what I’ve been reading. In fact, Ken and Nanette are workamping up there in the Adirondack Mountains of New York and are feeling the heat themselves. We stayed up in that area at a state park near Lake Placid in July of 1997 and it was over 100F. We were dry camping and spent a lot of time outdoors in the shade of some wonderful trees in that campground.
Friday we aren’t officially babysitting since Stephanie has the day off. Mackenzie is going to go to some practice sessions for her team gymnastics and we’re going to pick Zoey up after breakfast for another outing. We’re heading over to a small state park near Olympia. We’re hoping for another fun day!
Stay cool out there, folks! If you can.
Until next time…..so long for now!
You guys are great babysitters, but as well behaved as they are, makes your task much easier.
ReplyDeleteThe heat is really rough, it zaps it out of you.
Enjoy the next day "off" snd just cj=hillax.
Take care....
Mike & Gerri
This hot weather is miserable. Unlike our last house, our current house has heat pump air conditioning, though, so it's comfortable inside. We were even able to exercise indoors today.
ReplyDeleteGood job with your "grands"! You probably sweated off some calories today!
You're absolutely right about it being too hot outside today to do anything - we had similar temps here on the Island. It sure didn't seem to stop the kids from having fun outside though. I got tired just looking at the photos of them jumping up and down in all that blistering hot weather!
ReplyDeleteRaining now in southern Ontario & how nice is that as a much welcomed cooler front of air moves into the area......finally!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like another fun day for Grandma, the kids sure do enjoy the fun of the parks, I have spent many hours sitting on park benchs watching Adam and his friends play, You are so lucky for this time, And Margie knows how to keeo the girls busy and happy. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.
ReplyDeleteYou have a couple of talented and charming grands! Give Zoey a little more time and she'll have her own personal artistic style just the way she'll want it!
ReplyDeleteAs for weather, we're still hot, but we had a little rain yesterday. Maybe the true monsoons are not too far away now.
The girls don't seem to mind the heat. They look Luke they could stay out all day jumping on the trampoline.
ReplyDeleteHot here in Alberta too! Too hot to take the dog for a walk, it's +28 (celcius).
ReplyDeleteTake care, stay cool!
Cheers!
Once again...we chose the best place for this season. The weather here in Mancos, Colorado has been...wellll...on the chilly side. We had our first rain/thunderstorm come through yesterday and dumped some well needed rain. It was marvelous, very noisy on the rig though since it rained sooooo hard. Right now, there is a chill in the air, still having a sweatshirt on in the am and evenings.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for all the heat everyone has been experiencing, we will send you our cool wishes.
