First of all, Welcome Aboard to a new "Follower" who has joined the group. THANK YOU very much Judy and Emma for tuning in to my RV blog. I appreciate the time you devote to reading about our adventures in the fulltime lifestyle.
We had found the Muscatatuck Park campground listed in our Coast to Coast Directory as a Good Neighbor Park. So, we made a 2-night reservation. When we arrived on Wednesday we found out that it is also a Jennings County Park in the town of North Vernon. Our directory said they only had water and electric (30 amp) but after checking in at the Visitor's Center we found out that there are a few sites with sewer as well.
The woman in the Visitor's Center was friendly and told us to drive down into the park and just pick out any site we wanted in the big rig sites. Nobody else was there. So, we drove down this winding road through beautiful trees and past a small waterfall.
We pulled out into the clearing to find large athletic fields, several playgrounds, horseshoe pits, picnic shelters, hiking and biking trails and a beautiful section for big rigs to set up. We pulled easily into the 65-foot long pull-thru site and it was almost perfectly level. Every campsite has a fire ring and a wooden picnic table to use.
We took Annie out for a walk and saw the water and electric sites back further into a wooded area. We were glad to have the big rig sites to choose from as there were no trees and, therefore, our satellite could function. They have restrooms here that also have showers. If you are a tenter, you will appreciate the availability of flush toilets and showers. They are a bit rustic here and I'm glad I have a self-contained RV.
There is a beautiful pond in the park and the geese were enjoying themselves. They were honking happily as we watched. This park is on the land that was once a stone cutting quarry back in 1840. They have a lot of stone work here, plus, an area by the Muscatatuck River in the park that permits you to do some rock climbing.
This stone wall ran along part of the road leading to the campsites. I saw this black bird down by the pond. I think it may be a Red-Winged Blackbird. Am I guessing correctly???
We were pleasantly surprised that this was such a beautiful place to camp. We would definitely come back here to this park. Our Good Neighbor rate was $15.00 per night (full hook-ups or not). The rate for other visitors in the big rig sites is $23.00 and the W/E sites are $16.00. Come check out this great county park.
Until next time.....so long for now!
That is a beautiful park, as well as a beautiful price!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful park. Thanks for the posting your excellent pictures of this park.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, it is a red-winged blackbird. Would your rig have fit in the $16 sights? I prefer woods to no trees.
ReplyDeleteHi Judy and Emma -- I'm not sure our RV would fit in the W/E sites, but they are big enough for at least a 35-footer. Most are fairly level, but a few were real slanted to the back.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ID confirmation of the bird! I'm not much of a birder.
Thanks, too, for the comment.
Your article is very helpful for me, I will follow your instruction. Thank you.
