Comments are sort of the life blood of a blog. They aren't necessary....but they are nice to receive. It lets you know if people are even reading your blog, but also, it lets you know what they may think of it. I have my comments held until they are approved by me for publishing. Some bloggers do this and some have the comments inserted immediately.
The reason I have my comments held until I read them is not because I won't publish criticism. I have published every comment I've received with the exception of one on my Healthy Living Blog which was a request for me to advertise a product and I would not do that. My main reason is that I don't want to miss a single comment in the event it needs an answer or a follow-up comment from me.
This is what happened this morning. When I opened my e-mail, there was a comment regarding a post the reader found from September 10, 2009. He took issue with a fact I had written and took me to task for it. I immediately posted his comment. Then I went and looked up the post and realized that I had, indeed, made this error. I corrected that post's information. Had he been incorrect, I would have posted my own reply about that. The poster (he/she?) was "Anonymous" but that's OK with me. If I had not utilized the "comment holding for approval" detail, I may have missed his comment.
I Follow so many blogs that I cannot always post a comment on every single one, every single day. I try to make comments on as many as possible, so the blogger will know I'm enjoying their topic, photography, or general opinions. I don't have to agree completely with everything written, just as I would not expect a reader to agree with everything I write all the time, but I can still appreciate the content and the effort that goes into putting it out there for us to read.
So...I appreciate Mr. or Mrs. "Anonymous" from this morning. I know that somebody out there has been paying attention.
FYI: If you haven't seen a large plastic cow lately, just look in this yard of a home in the Historic Capital District in Olympia, Washington. These folks saw the need to decorate their home with Bossy the Cow!
Until next time.....so long for now!
Well, that is definitely a moooooving tribute to their home alright.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree about the comments. They are definitely an inspiring & important part of all our blogs. I was asked recently if there were no comments, would I still blog. Answer is yes, but I would no longer have my heart into it like I do now....
Hi! I don't leave comments very often, but I have been following your journey. :) I'm a future full-timer (hopefully), but its several years away, so until then I'm living vicariously through other Rv'ers blogs. LOL :) Thanks for taking the time to write these entries about your travels!
ReplyDeleteThe only part of commenting that I don't care for is if there are already 8 comments ahead of me, all saying the same thing I want to say.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice looking cow!
Good post Margie! As you know, we are new to full-timing and blogging. The comments are important for all the reasons you mentioned and I agree with The Bayfield Bunch...I would still blog if I got no comments but it wouldn't be the same. I value each and every comment and I especially appreciate the ones you make. Thanks so much for reading our blog and caring enough to make your comments.

Haven't had much time lately to do much more than read a blog a day, and not much updating ours...but I do check for comments every day and wish there were more!
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy your blog and look forward to many more years of following it!
I have been staying at my duaghters house the last 2 weeks and using their computer. I am so far behind on reading and commenting on all my friends blogger sites. I really miss reading everyone's blogs.I haven't even been blogging. i am ready to go home tomorrow. With that said...Margie I have missed chatting with you. I hope you are having fun at home. I will update my blog Thursday. Enjoy your family and know that we enjoy you!!

good blog today Margie..and I agree I like when comments are left..at least you know that someone is reading!!and as for your anonymous comment from september 2009..tell him to MOOOOVVVEEEE on.
ReplyDeletehave a great day and keep on writing and we will keep on reading!!
Good point Margie...you've helped me make up my mind to set comments to "approve first". I've been thinking about it, because I have missed a couple of commments and came across them later on. I don't always leave comments on the blogs I read...though, I know that I should more often. Both of yours are definately on my "must read first list" though...and I DO! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe cow is kinda cute! Not my personal chice for a lawn ornament, but, maybe the people who live there have some sentimental reason for it, or maybe they just really like cows, or the attention? Glad you took a photo of it.
Good thoughts today about comments, Margie. It's kind of nice to know that our words are not just being sent off into cyberspace never to be seen or heard again. Reading a comment at least let's us all know that someone is reading.
