8 Days Left

I discovered (finally woke up to see) a new Follower on my RV blog.  Welcome and THANK YOU to Melissa.  I appreciate the time and interest you give to reading my blog about our lifestyle as fulltime RVer's.  I hope you enjoy the stories about our daily life.

Counting today, we have 8 more days until we head back down South on Interstate 5 out of Tumwater.  We have a few things to get done before we leave, including another trip to I-5 Uhlmann RV.  They have some needed replacement parts in stock now.  We are still awaiting the replacement monitor for our back-up camera system.  Naturally, they no longer sell the one we have and we have to get a newer model.  That will mean the extended warranty folks will most certainly only pay for what the old monitor cost and we will have to pick up the difference.  They did that with our replacement satellite dish.  At least we shouldn't have to pay the entire cost of the new model.

The problem, however, is that they have had difficulty locating the new monitor and we are hoping it arrives before next Tuesday, the 23rd.  We plan to leave our park here in Tumwater that morning to go to Uhlmann's.  Then we will just stay down in that area and Wally-dock for the night at the Walmart there.  We have an appointment in Woodland, WA the next morning to get our new window blinds installed.  We are hoping all of this works well and we can get these items installed before we begin our drive to Florida.

So we wait.......and hope.

I was cooking dinner this evening and I totally forgot an important item.  The smoke alarm.  It was installed in the ceiling in the forward area of our MH right near the stove.  Good planning!  It is necessary to cover it each and every time I use the range top or the convection oven for a prolonged period of time.  I cover it with a small baggie.

When I first started doing this I would sometimes forget to remove the baggie after cooking.  The next morning I would notice it up there, still covering the alarm, and thereby rendering it almost useless as a safety device.  So, I had to come up with a reminder for my pea-brained self.  I keep this little sign on the refrigerator and when I apply the baggie to the alarm I put the sign on the counter next to the stove.  I see it now and never forget to remove the baggie.

Poor Annie runs for the bedroom now every time I pull a saucepan or skillet out to begin cooking.  She was scared to death when that smoke alarm sounded loudly and ran for the bedroom to hide.  She takes no chances these days and just heads for the hills at mealtimes.

That's my short story for today.  Hope everyone out there in Blogland had a great Monday!

Until next time.....so long for now!

  1. My alarm goes off every time I cook bacon, and Lady runs for the bedroom also. I have a fantastic fan in the kitchen, but must have the switch turned off - I can't read the dials and need to climb on a chair to see what switch to turn, as well as to reach it. There is sometimes no end to the aggravation!

  2. That's a great tip on putting a plastic bag over the smoke alarm. Our Molly also goes beserk when the alarm goes off and it takes her forever to calm down. Good idea for the reminder note on the fridge too as we'd probably forget that.

  3. Yes, it's so frustrating to try to cook in the RV with that danged smoke alarm blaring. We moved ours from the kitchen to another area further up front, and added one to the bedroom area in back.

  4. I had not realized that running to the bedroom was a common escape procedure for all doggy friends. Our Great Pyrenees (Commander Shelby) also runs to the bedroom (yes, we travel with a Great Pyrenees). I initially thought she was simply afraid but after more thought, I am certain the loud whining pitch hurts her ears.

  7. I use my smoke alarm as a timer. When it goes off, the food is done.

  8. It might be because it is on the ceiling?
Have you thought about moving it to a side wall maybe 6 inches from the ceiling. It would still do it's thing if need be.
I found that out in my house, now it only goes off if I burn something, just like it is supposed to.

  9. Our smoke alarm is almost at the front door. I guess if it goes off its too late to exit through that route! I wonder how easy those exit windows are to pop out?? Great planning indeed.

Hope everything gets fixed up for you and you are able to hit the road on time.
