My Blogger Dashboard

I know that I'm a real dud when it comes to computer technology and I hardly know any of the proper terminology, so my problem is vexing, to say the least.  I've tried to seek help from "Blogger Help" and get nowhere with that.

My problem is my Dashboard set-up.  I cannot add any of the advanced gadgets or features.  I've done a couple of the very simple things but am now stymied.  When I look at any of the tutorials on Blogger, the Dashboard never looks like mine.  The bottom line on my Dashboard reads:

New Post     Edit Posts    Settings    Layout    Monetize

The Dashboard I see on the tutorials has a "template" tab down with the others which is supposed to link to "customize settings".   I do not have this on my Dashboard and can find no way to update my Dashboard to the kind I see in the videos.

If anyone has a suggestion for me, that would be easy for me (the dunderhead) to understand, let me know.  Thanks.

Until next time.....so long for now!

  2. Whoa...I'm not paying anyone to do anything with mine! If I can't get an answer to this question...my blog and dashboard will just stay the way it is. At least I can still use it and publish my posts.

  3. Margie, when you are in the Dashboard, just click on "Layout" and you will see the information you are looking for like "templates" and adding widgets.

  4. If you click on the layout tab do you not then see the "add a gadget" button? That's what mine says. I can also get there on my main blog page there is a link on the top right that says customize. I click that to also get to the add a gadget page. Hope that helps. I'm no expert, just feeling my way around also. Karen

  5. I guess I'm not making anything very clear. I have clicked Layouts and have been able to do the simple widgets that are seen on my blog home page, but I cannot ever see the "customize" tab to click on. I cannot find customized templates, all I can ever get is the standard 10 or 12 shown under Chose a Template when I click "Layout". Thanks for your help, Rick. I guess I'll just leave things the way they are as it is good enough.

  6. Karen...that is what I'm trying (poorly I guess) to say, there is no tab for "customize" anywhere. Not on the Dashboard and when I do click "layout" the only choices at the top are "fonts & colors" "edit HTML" or "Pick New Template". No customize anywhere.

  7. Customize has been taken out of the Blogger format - I don't see it either. It's all just Dashboard now. I see exactly what you describe when I click on Layout including the 12 or so templates. Here's an idea - look for one of the gadgets on someone's blog that you'd like - let me know what it is and I'll show you how to get it, o.k.

  8. Rick, thank you so much for the help. I just thought I was going nuts there for a while everytime I'd view one of Blogger tutorials. I think I really just want to maybe add a site meter to my blog. I don't really want to clutter everything up with tons of stuff. You really are so knowledgeable on this computer and Blog stuff and I appreciate your comments and help very much. Wish I had just 10% of your smarts!
